French pottery match holder from the famous Brittany town of Quimper. World renound for its beautifully designed ceramics.
This example is hand painted with a floral motif and inscribed 'Allumettes' French for matches. They would have been kept to hand by the stove or fire, safe from sparks and damp in this little pot.
There is a hole so it can be hung on the wall and a wooden lid. There are some watermarks on the lid, it could be refinished if desired. Otherwise it is in good condition with no chips or cracks.
The pot is signed by the artist.
The height at the back is 13cmor 5" and 10cm 4" wide.
