A large antique shopkeeper's measure, from before the days of pre-packed goods, this would have been used to measure exact quantities, it is officially stamped as a certified capacity, a half decalitre, or 5 litres (just over 10 pints)

It is in great condition with the brass shining, I can imagine the proud shopkeeper keeping his measures polished and looking after them.

It is traditionally made of a bentwood sheet, polished on the outdide and plain wood finish on the inside, where it came into contact with food. It has a stamped wooden base and reinforced wooden band around the bottom with a brass band securing it at the top. This band is stamped officially half on the band, half on the wood.

It measures 8" high.
