I am delighted to bring you this splendid, extremely rare and highly collectible French antique prayer book, published in Paris in 1885.
 
The front cover has a beautifully ornate openwork silver engraved filigaree plate, applied over the leather binding in a highly skilled and traditional style, dating back through the ages to medieval times as a way of embellishing only the most precious books.
 
Inside, there is an exquisite gilded pattern around the edge of the cover, which is a lined in water silk  with gold fleur de lys design frontspiece paper. The edges of the pages are gilded.
 
The pages are ornately decorated with detailed and beautifully executed illustrations.
 
One small but important detail that adds significantly to the value of the book is the binder's signature stamp, Rouselle.
 
The material of the coverpiece have not been tested, I presume it is silver plated brass. 
 
The book measures 6.25" by 5" and 1.5" thick.
