A post-expressionist oil painting of an evocative view across the Mediterranean coast, probably the South of France Côte d'Azure.
 
Interestingly, as well as being full of Southern French charm, it has a history. It has been painted on a Sennelier Paris 'Carton-Toile' painter's board, the stamp on the back dates it from 1930-1950.
 
This is exactly the period J Bonin was active, he is known as a 'petit maître', a skilled painter who worked outside the avant-guard movements and was focussed on colour harmony, natural light and beautiful views.
 
He has signed on the bottom right and the signature is comparable to other works of his sold in auction. 
 
It measures 13" by 8.5" and is in good condition for its age.
