The lighting of this painting is very typical of Northern France in late autumn, it is the light that attracted many impressionist artists due to its ephemeral complexity.

The viewer is drawn in by the sky, reflected in the river below. the fisherman's boats pulled up on the river and the low boat sheds beyond. It appears the river winds out to sea, the trees in the background  look like coastal windswept trees.

It is a little loose on the stretchers after many years, it was probably painted in the early 1900s, I love that it shows its age and authenticity.

There is one small slit in the painting,  clearly indicated. It could be cleaned but I have left it as found in the Paris fleamarket for you to decide.

The painting measures 16" by 10.5"
