Au Salon la Lecture  (In the sitting room, reading), captures a Parisian bourgeois family scene from the Belle Epoque, depicting four elegantly dressed people, three reading with the young lady having turned to her embroidery. The soft pinks and warm light make this painting a pleasure to display in your home.
 
Attributed to Henri Dropsy the painting shows his remarkable skill with fine brushwork capturing the soft intimate light in the salon and reflects the charming French genre style so popular in the decade prior to the 1914 - 1918 war. 
 
The canvas measures 26" by 17" (66x44cm) and has a small tear on the wall next to the plant, pictured. You may choose to have the painting professionally cleaned or restored, I leave that decision to you as many prefer art in the original condition.
 
Henri Dropsy was born into an artistic family in 1885 and studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts, Paris. As well as painting, he is also renowned as a medallist and by 1930 had become a respected professor at the Ecole Nationale Superior des Beaux Arts in Paris.
