An elegant Napoleon III ormolu jewel box with ornate cabriole legs, embossed cartouche and floral motifs typical of the Rococo revival of this era.
 
Additionally, the hinged lid is elevated by a circular colour portrait of a lady in the typical Louis XV / Rococo style.
 
The inside of the lid is lined with cushioned blue silk and there is a blue silk cushion on the base of the interior. The silk lining has worn from use and has long been removed. The interior retains its beauty and history.
 
The gilding is bright and gently rubbed in places from use and age.
