19th century hand thrown Provençal cooking pot with the characteristic ochre yellow half glaze and a raw bottom half.
A toupin was used to slow cook or warm liquids on or next to the stove, the glazed inside kept in the flavours and the liquid. It has a lateral hollow handle making it easy to remove the pot from the fire or stove.
This is a lovely example as it is in the much loved classic half ochre glaze we love to associate with Provence, perfect for a French inspired farmhouse kitchen.
It shows its authenticity and age by the deep crackelure glaze and chippy rim as well as the soot markings around the base from the farmhouse fireplace.
It measures 4.5" tall and 5.5" across the handles
