A miniature ironstone confiture pot in the traditional and sought after rounded, footed bowl shape which was produced in the 19th century.

 

it is believed to have been designed for children, to be used in nurseries for a delicious 'gouter' the French child's after schoolsnack. It has lovely pictures around the side in sepia brown transferware which would enchant a child.

 

It seems to have been kept and played with, the resulting chip maybe as a result of a nursery accident?

 

The bowl measures just under 4.5" in diameter and 3" tall.
