A survivor of everyday French life, this French breakfast café au lait ironstone cup is so charming with two sweet blue birds on a flowering branch. This design appears to have been hand applied in cobalt blue, the edges have flowed to blur a little.
 
Sourced in Normandy at a country brocante, this adorable cup shows all of its authentic age and use in the light glaze craquelure and subtle tea staining from many years of use in the family home.  There are a few tiny nibbles at the rim from use since around 1900.
