A splendid substantial jardinière or planter dating to the French Rococo Revival between 1840 -1860. It has the classic Rococo ornately scrolled flowing motifs mixed with the roses so characteristic of mid 19th century French design.
It is made of heavyweight copper, as used for the best quality homeware in this era. The jardinière was once silver plated, now however it has almost all polished away, except for some traces of its history under the beautifully ornate handles.
Inside it is marked 'Deposé', the design was registered and this is also a sign of both quality and a high end manufacturer.
The jardiniere is 13" long, 5.5" deep and 5" tall at the front. It stands solidly on its 4 scrolled feet and is in good antique condition.
It has the original planter which has some holes but remains useable for its original purpose, if you intend to use this for plants, either lined easily with some reused plastic or as drainage holes - many have drainage holes in the planter.
