A beautiful original oil on canvas seascape featuring white cliffs, a choppy sea and actrive sky, all these details point to it being the Côte d'Albâtre (Alabasrter coast) in Normandy, an area that includes the famous cliffs at Etretat, so beloved of Monet and artists since.
It is in a bold, fast moving Impressionistic style, matching the swift changes in the weather that Normandy is famous for. It has the warm light of a summer's day at golden hour, with the warm glow of the approaching sunset.
The canvas is firm on the stretchers, and there are only expected signs of age and wear but no damage beyond this. There is spare canvas around the stetchers, on the side. This could be trimmed and bound and would dissapear from view in a frame, or of course enjoyed as it is as a sign of age and authenticity
This beautiful painting measures 13.75" by 9.5"
