It is so unusual to find a matchstriker with a wooden top, these are among the oldest. There was once a textured coating on the top to strike the matches, which has worn away with repeated use in a Paris café.
The striker celebrates Dubonnet's prize awarded in 1900 at the Paris Great Exhibition and this dates it to the very beginning of the 20th century.
It measures approximately 3" tall and 4" diameter at the base. There is some smudging of the ink from the lettering, dating from time of manufacture and the wood has irregularities of a natural product, clearly pictured .
