A delightfully patinated compote or raised gâteau plate in antique ironstone by HB&C, stamped attractively on the base which dates it from 1875.
 
It is a particularly elegant with its fluted shape, unusually ornate pedestal and of course its beautiful design in unusual ink blue and brown transferware.
 
In the centre of the plate is an evening countyside scene and a river with 'soir' or evening in French. 
 
The plate has sepia age related 'tea staining' across the plate.
 
It measures 9.5" in diameter and just under 4" high.
