Eventail in French, such a lovely word for fan and this tureen is covered with exquisite soft blue fans making a very attractive pattern. This and its appealing rounded shape make it display beautifully.
 
It has some patination from age and use with hot food, especially around the scrolled handles and inside the bowl, but is without damage. There is a small lump from firing in the kiln, it is hard to see so I have indicated it with an arrow 
 
The Longwy mark on the base, added to this the imprinted mark used in the late 1800s, date the tureen from c1880. This was when 'Japonaisism' was popular in French design, following the reopening of trade routes between the two countries.
 
The tureen measures a compact 9.5" by 7" tall
